Writer, designer, actor and director James Fluhr created the piece that has been developed over the past year at the Boston Center for American Performance and the Boston University New Play Initiative. It also earned the Distinguished Performance of a Lead Actor and Distinguished Production of a New Play honors at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.
Our Lady will run Aug. 13-25 at the Living Theatre on 21 Clinton Street.
Here's how it's billed: "Sparked by a crucial encounter in the playwright's life, this powerful solo performance - a modern fairytale and theatrical fantasy - follows a suicidal teen as he is transformed by his choice of self-acceptance and life. Our Lady is not only a play, but a call to action. The story honors the LGBTQ youth that have turned to suicide as an answer to unjust societal pressures."
Fluhr is a graduate of Boston University. In addition to his work as a performer and writer, he earned an IRNE Award for his scenic design for the Boston Center for American Performance production of The Road to Mecca.
