Jonathan Groff, Cheyenne Jackson, Heidi Rodewald and members of the PigPen Theatre Company honor Tony Award-winning director Julie Taymor as part of Sonnet Repertory Theatre's Nov. 12 benefit cabaret at the 92YTribeca.
The 6 PM evening, hosted by Spider-Man and Cyrano star Patrick Page, honors Taymor (The Lion King, Spider-Man, The Green Bird) for her visionary career and support of Sonnet Rep's mission of "classic theatre for the modern planet."
Also scheduled to appear are John Behlmann, Ayo Jackson, Sondre Lerche, Martin Luther McCoy, Rema Webb and Alton F. White. Video tributes will be offered by Alan Cumming, Helen Mirren and Alfred Molina.
The benefit features music by Elliot Goldenthal, Sondre Lerche, Ray Leslee, PigPen Theatre Company, Will Reynolds, Heidi Rodewald and Stew, and Ben Toth and Todd Almond.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
