The high-flying Broadway musical Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark is giving school children who attend a performance during the "back-to-school" period a free limited-edition Spider-Man backpack (while supplies last). Possible prizes inside the backpacks include a backstage pass.

The backpacks will be filled with "goodies," including a Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark report card, which can be filled out for the chance to win a special classroom visit from Spider-Man. In addition, ten backpacks will contain a "golden ticket," in which recipients will be offered the chance to go on a backstage tour and meet Spider-Man following the performance.

As previously announced, Justin Matthew Sargent, who recently joined the company as the Peter Parker/Spider-Man Alternate, has graduated to the production's full-time superhero, succeeding original star Reeve Carney.

Spider-Man features music and lyrics by 22-time Grammy Award winners Bono and The Edge and a book co-written by Julie Taymor, Glen Berger and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, with direction by Taymor and additional direction by Philip William McKinley. Scenic designer George Tsypin and costume designer Eiko Ishioka are winners of Outer Critics Circle Awards and were nominated for Tony Awards for their work on Spider-Man.

Here's how the musical is billed: "Peter Parker's ordinary teenage life takes a turn for the extraordinary when he’s bitten by a genetically altered spider and suddenly finds himself endowed with incredible superpowers. Parker quickly learns that with great power comes great responsibility as he tries to juggle the demands of high school and home life, while battling the Green Goblin and his band of super villains as they try to take down New York City and destroy everything Peter holds dear – including the beautiful girl-next-door, Mary Jane Watson."
