06 Jul 2013
Playbill.com's series features actors commenting on their recent theatregoing experiences, what productions they're looking forward to and more. Here, via email, we hear from singing actor Darren Ritchie, who will be seen in the New York Musical Theatre Festival production of Standby, which runs July 19-28 at The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center.
What show recently impressed you? I was really impressed by the rich script and score to Once.
What production are you most excited to see? I'd really like to see Kinky Boots to support my friends and see what helped it win the Tony!
What play/musical would you most like to revive on Broadway, and which role would you want to play? I'd love to see a Full Monty revival; I'd, of course, love to play Jerry in it!!
What are your current/upcoming projects? I'm currently in the NYMF musical Standby thru July, and then I'm going to Istanbul and China with the concert tour Broadway Rox, then off to Philadelphia for the pre-Broadway show Nerds about Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, where I'm playing Steve Jobs!!
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
