Steven Strafford Is Methtacular! Beginning Aug. 30 Off-Broadway
30 Aug 2012
The New York premiere of Methtacular!, Steven Strafford's humorous and harrowing account of his life as a crystal methamphetamine addict in Chicago, begins performances Aug. 30 at the Playroom Theatre in Manhattan.
Directed by kef theatrical productions artistic director Adam Fitzgerald, the limited engagement continues through Sept. 23. Opening night is set for Sept. 2.
Methtacular! is written and performed by Strafford (Spamalot Las Vegas, Peter Pan national tour) and is described as "a roller coaster ride of a play." The evening, according to producers, "journeys into the depths of Strafford's drug-addled, sex-crazed life through stories, songs and 'Facts of Life' references."
Other members of the creative team include John McDaniel (music supervision and arrangements) and Aaron Rhyne (video design).
Methtacular! is presented by kef theatrical productions in partnership with Justin Brill (Wicked national tour).
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
