Multiple Tony winner Susan Stroman, currently represented on Broadway with the new musical Bullets Over Broadway, will helm a production of The Merry Widow for The Metropolitan Opera. Performances will begin Dec. 31, 2014, and continue through Jan. 28, 2015.

The cast will be headed by Renée Fleming as "the beguiling femme fatale who captivates all Paris," according to press notes. The opera star will be joined by Nathan Gunn as Danilo and The Bridges of Madison County's Kelli O'Hara as Valencienne. (Mezzo-soprano diva Susan Graham takes on the title role later in the run.)

Sir Andrew Davis and Fabio Luisi will conduct.

The design team includes set designer Julian Crouch, costume designer William Ivey Long and lighting designer Paule Constable.

The Merry Widow was composed by Franz Lehar with librettists Viktor Leon and Leo Stein.
