The 12, New Rock Musical by 2014 Tony-Winning Playwright, Will Make World Premiere at Denver Center
15 Aug 2014
The 12, a brand-new rock musical with book and lyrics by 2014 Tony Award winner Robert Schenkkan (All the Way) and music and lyrics by Neil Berg, will close out the Denver Center for the Performing Arts' 2014-15 season.
Performances at the Denver venue are scheduled for March 27-April 26, 2015. Opening night is April 3.
Creative team, casting and additional information will be announced at a later time.
The 12, according to press notes, "enacts the ultimate test of faith faced by the disciples in the wake of their leader’s unthinkable death with an original, authentic classic rock music score."
“The 12 is the perfect show to close out the Theatre Company’s 2014/15 season,” said Kent Thompson, producing artistic director, in a statement. “We are thrilled to present this compelling musical, which has the added bonus of being the third world premiere of the season.”
Schenkkan is the author of All the Way and The Kentucky Cycle; composer Berg's credits include Grumpy Old Men and Prince and the Pauper.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
