The Burnt Part Boys, which was presented in spring 2010 as a co-production between Playwrights Horizons and Vineyard Theatre, makes its West Coast debut Sept. 14.

Third Street Theatre and West Coast Ensemble Theatre present the musical by Mariana Elder (book), Chris Miller (music) and Nathan Tysen (lyrics) through Oct. 20 at Third Street Theatre.

Richard Israel directs a cast that includes Daniel David Stewart as 14-year-old Pete, struggling with the death of his father and lost in his own imagination; Aaron Scheff as his older brother Jake, working his way up to foreman at the Pickaway mine that took their father’s life; and Adam Dingeman, Joe Donohoe and Lauren Patten as, respectively, Dusty, Chet and Frances. The ensemble features Rich Brunner, Richard Hellstern, Philip Dean Lightstone and Matt Musgrove.

The Burnt Part Boys, according to press notes, "follows a group of teenagers in West Virginia's coal country on their life-altering journey to 'the burnt part' – the section of the coal mine that took their fathers’ lives."

The creative team also includes musical director Gregory Nabours, scenic designer Will Pellegrini, lighting designer Johnny Ryman, sound designer Cricket S. Myers and costume designer Vicki Conrad. The stage manager is Danielle DeMasters.

Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 2 PM.
