The international hit musical will play the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre beginning April 27, 2013, as part of the show's first-ever tour of the U.K. and Ireland. Performances will continue through June 22, 2013. Tickets for the Dublin run will go on sale Oct. 26.
This production will open in Manchester in December 2012.
"We continue to be thrilled by how audiences enjoy The Lion King around the world, and we are delighted to share Julie Taymor’s epic vision with Ireland," said Fiona Thomas, vice president of the Disney Theatrical Group EMEA, in a statement. “Dublin’s Bord Gáis Energy Theatre is a stunning venue, and we cannot wait to stage The Lion King there in the spring.”
Four years in the making, this international production brings together a cast of over 50 actors, singers and dancers from 17 different countries, supported by a backstage team of over 100 people. The Lion King is the largest musical production ever to tour Ireland and the U.K., with 21 giant trucks being used to transport the hundreds of masks and puppets, thousands of lights, scenery and more than 700 costumes used in the production. This touring production will visit 10 cities over the next two-and-a-half years, with further dates and locations to be announced.
