28 Jun 2013
"Annie: It's the Hard-Knock Life, From Script to Stage" debuts in the New York metropolitan area on WNET/13 June 28 at 9 PM ET. Here is never-before-seen footage from the program that shows the young stars of the Tony-nominated revival receiving news that they were cast.
The one-hour program is described as such: "It’s been 35 years since the little orphan Annie first stepped onto a Broadway stage. The show-stopping musical Annie, its characters and its songs are timeless and classic, and for the musical’s return to Broadway, this documentary offers a memorable behind-the-scenes look at every step of the production number 'It’s the Hard-Knock Life,' from the earliest phases of discussion among the creative team, rehearsals with actors, to opening night."
Encore broadcasts on WNET are scheduled for June 30 at 7 PM and July 2 at 3:30 AM.
The revival of the family favorite, which currently features Jane Lynch as Miss Hannigan, continues at Broadway's Palace Theatre.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
