Colbert, who previously appeared in the New York Philharmonic staging of Company and also welcomed Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim to his program, has admitted he is a fan of Broadway musicals.
His affection is on display in the clip below, where he joins McDonald for a very funny duet of "Summertime."
McDonald (Ragtime, Marie Christine, Master Class) co-stars with Norm Lewis (Sondheim on Sondheim, Side Show, Les Miserables) in the production that opened to critical praise Jan. 12 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre under the direction of Tony nominee Diane Paulus (Hair, Prometheus Bound).
Porgy and Bess has music by George Gershwin, lyrics by his brother Ira and a book and additional lyrics by DuBose Heyward. It is based on the play Porgy, by DuBose and Dorothy Heyward.
