Newsies, the new Disney musical that took home the 2012 Tony Award for Best Choreography, performed on the ABC reality television program "Dancing With the Stars" Nov. 13.
Corey Cott, who replaced Tony Award nominee Jeremy Jordan in the role of Jack Kelly, led the newsboys in "Seize the Day," the high-flying Act I finale. He was joined by Andrew Keenan-Bolger as Crutchie and Ben Fankhauser as Davey.
Newsies features a Tony-winning score with music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman as well as a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.
Directed by Jeff Calhoun, the production also stars Ron Raines as Joseph Pulitzer, Kara Lindsay as Katherine Plumber, LaVon Fisher-Wilson as Medda Larkin, and Nicholas Lampiasi and Jake Lucas alternating the role of Les.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
