In this premiere episode of "Life with Laura," Tony Award winner Laura Benanti invited Playbill over to visit her while she answered emails, attempted to save a Saudi Arabian prince, called in a favor from a window washing crew and unpacked her vast collection of self-help books.
A 2008 Tony winner for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical, Benanti is always on the move. Whether she is working on Broadway (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Gypsy), television (The Sound of Music Live!,"Go On," "Royal Pains"), City Center Encores! (the upcoming 2014 production of The Most Happy Fella) or recording multiple studio, cast and live performance albums, she never lets up.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
