Sasha Allen, who appeared on Broadway in Hair and on screen in the cult movie "Camp," stepped into the national spotlight April 8 as a contestant on the NBC star-making series "The Voice."
Allen took center stage to deliver a soulful rendition of the Dixie Chicks song "Not Ready to Make Nice." Her vocal performance was so compelling that all of the judges turned their chairs around, giving the singer their endorsement.
Allen's performance ended with the four judges in a bidding war to work with her on the series. Ultimately, Allen selected Maroon Five front-man Adam Levine to serve as her mentor.
Here's a look at Allen's performance on "The Voice," as well as highlights from her stage, film and concert appearances.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
