THE SCREENING ROOM: Happy Birthday, Donna Murphy and Ruthie Henshall (Video)
07 Mar 2013
Tony Award winner Donna Murphy, who originated the role of Fosca in the Stephen Sondheim-James Lapine musical Passion, and Olivier Award winner Ruthie Henshall, who was seen on Broadway in the original cast of the Sondheim revue Putting It Together, celebrate their birthdays March 7. Playbill.com takes a look at their performances.
Henshall has also been seen on Broadway in Miss Saigon and Chicago. Her other credits include Crazy for You (Olivier nomination), She Loves Me (Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical), Marguerite (Olivier nomination), Peggy Sue Got Married (Olivier nomination), Les Misérables, Oliver! and The Woman in White. Visit her page at the Playbill Vault.
Murphy performs "Hit Me With a Hot Note and Watch Me Bounce" on the television series "What About Joan." Look closely, that's Tony-nominated Grey Gardens and Far From Heaven composer Scott Frankel at the piano.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
