27 Dec 2012
Heather Headley, the Tony Award-winning Aida actress, currently stars in the West End production of The Bodyguard. Here are highlights from the musical, which includes Whitney Houston hits such as "I Have Nothing," "I Will Always Love You" and more.
Thea Sharrock directs The Bodyguard, based on the Lawrence Kasdan-scripted Warner Bros. film of the same name, which opened Dec. 5 at London's Adelphi Theatre.
Headley portrays Rachel Marron, and Lloyd Owen is Frank Farmer, the roles made famous on film by the late Houston and Kevin Costner, respectively.
A romantic thriller, The Bodyguard features a multitude of Houston's greatest hits, including "Queen of the Night," "So Emotional," "One Moment in Time," "Saving All My Love," "I'm Your Baby Tonight," "Run to You," "I Have Nothing," "How Will I Know," "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" and "I Will Always Love You."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
