27 Feb 2014
Beautiful: The Carole King Musical star Jessie Mueller, a Tony nominee for her performance in the revival of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, and Beautiful cast members stopped by "The Today Show" Feb. 27 to perform "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?"
The musical about the Grammy Award-winning musician whose Brooklyn roots would lead to the soundtrack of a generation officially opened on Broadway Jan. 12 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.
Based on King's life and music, Beautiful has a book by Academy Award nominee Douglas McGrath. Marc Bruni (Pipe Dream, Ordinary Days, Old Jews Telling Jokes) stages the production with choreography by Josh Prince and musical direction by Jason Howland.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
