THE SCREENING ROOM: New Highlights from Tori Amos Musical The Light Princess (Video)
27 Dec 2013
The National Theatre has released a new trailer for The Light Princess, the new London musical with music and lyrics by Tori Amos and book and lyrics by Samuel Adamson.
Described in press materials as a "dark fairytale about grief, rebellion and the power of love," it is directed by Marianne Elliott, most recently represented in London by Sweet Bird of Youth at the Old Vic and the ongoing West End transfers of the National Theatre's productions of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time and War Horse (the latter of which she co-directed with Tom Morris and has also played on Broadway). It officially opened Oct. 9 with Rosalie Craig starring as Althea.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
