THE SCREENING ROOM: Norm Lewis and Andrew Lloyd Webber Rehearse Phantom (Video)
03 Apr 2014
Norm Lewis, a Tony Award nominee for his performance as Porgy in The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, will become the first African-American performer to star in the title role in the New York production of The Phantom of the Opera when he joins the Broadway production May 12.
Lewis and Phantom composer Andrew Lloyd Webber recently rehearsed "The Music of the Night" for an upcoming ABC World News with Diane Sawyer segment on April 4.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
