THE SCREENING ROOM: "Revolting Children" — Cast of Broadway's Matilda Performs on "GMA" (Video)
03 May 2013
The cast of the Tony Award-nominated Best Musical Matilda the Musical visited "Good Morning America" May 2 to perform two musical numbers, "Naughty" and "Revolting Children," from the new Broadway musical.
The musical, which features a Tony Award-nominated score by Tim Minchin, was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. For a complete list of 2013 Tony Award nominees, click here.
The cast features original West End star Bertie Carvel, who earned an Olivier Award (and recent Tony nomination) for his portrayal of the malicious, pigtail-hating Miss Trunchbull. The Broadway cast also stars young actresses Sophia Gennusa, Oona Laurence, Bailey Ryon and Milly Shapiro, who share the title role, and were Tony-honored for their performances.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
