THE SCREENING ROOM: "The Today Show" Visits Matilda The Musical (Video)
13 Aug 2012
While the "Today Show" team was in London covering the Olympics, Meredith Vieira stopped by the Cambridge Theatre to visit the London troupe of the Broadway-bound production of Matilda The Musical.
Matilda premiered at the Royal Shakespeare Company's Courtyard Theatre in November 2010 and later transferred to the West End's Cambridge Theatre, where it continues to run. The Olivier Award-winning production based on the beloved Roald Dahl children's book will begin Broadway previews March 4, 2013, at the Shubert Theatre.
Matilda The Musical has a book by Dennis Kelly and a score by Tim Minchin. Tony Award-winning director Matthew Warchus (God of Carnage, The Norman Conquests, Boeing-Boeing, La Bête, Ghost) directs.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
