Presented by SpectiCast, in association with Melbar Entertainmet, The Tempest will return to cinemas beginning March 13 and Caesar & Cleopatra will make its theatrical premiere outside of Canada May 22. Both events were captured live at the Stratford Festival.
In William Shakespeare's The Tempest, Plummer plays Propspero, a Duke banished from his homeland, who lives on an island with his daughter Miranda (Trish Lindstrom). With the assistance of the spirit Ariel (Julyana Soelistyo), he raises a storm at sea, bringing within his grasp the enemies who robbed him of his dukedom.
George Bernard Shaw’s comedy Caesar & Cleopatra features Plummer as emperor Caesar, opposite Tony Award winner Nikki M. James (The Book of Mormon) as Cleopatra. The play follows Caesar as he teaches Cleopatra to become a confident ruler.
"Captured and immortalized in high definition film, these spectacular productions bring the power and intimacy of extraordinary design, words and performance in a larger than live experience that is simply incomparable," executive producer Barry Avrich said in a statement.
His one-man show A Word or Two recently played the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, CA; he also portrayed James Tyrone from Long Day's Journey Into Night for a PBS American Masters documentary of Eugene O'Neill.
The Stratford Festival has brought classical and contemporary theatre alive for over sixty years, annually presenting a dozen plays in four theatres between April and November, in the Canadian city of Stratford, Ontario.
