The Verdict: Critics Review Shlomo Carlebach Musical Soul Doctor On Broadway

Soul Doctor, the new musical about the life and music of controversial Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, officially opened on Broadway Aug. 15 at Circle in the Square.
Soul Doctor played a brief run Off-Broadway last summer as a guest attraction at New York Theatre Workshop. Prior to that, Soul Doctor played engagements in Florida and New Orleans. Previews began on Broadway July 17.
Conceived by Jeremy Chess, created by David Schechter and Daniel S. Wise, with direction by Wise, Soul Doctor has a book by Wise, lyrics by Schechter and music by Shlomo Carlebach, with additional material by Neshama Carlebach. Benoit-Swan Pouffer choreographs the Broadway production.
