Here's how it's billed: "'Thugs the Musical' follows the adventures of a struggling and delusional actor, his doomed musical production and the misfit group of actors he's assembled as his cast. After years of auditioning but not being considered 'black enough,' Michael Gardner decides to create a musical. His mission: to present a gritty, authentic depiction of life in the ghetto through the fabulous world of musical theatre. The film, shot as a faux documentary, chronicles the making of the play from rehearsals through its disastrous opening weekend and features such musical numbers as 'Who's That Keepin' It Real?,' 'Drive-By' and 'Oh No She Di-in't.'"
Avery is joined by Tony Award nominee Grier (Porgy and Bess, Race), Cho ("I’m The One That I Want," "Drop Dead Diva"), Rachel True ("The Craft"), Baron Vaughn ("Fairly Legal") and Wu Tang Clan's Prodigal Sunn.
