Tom Conti to Join Cast of West End's Twelve Angry Men
13 Mar 2014
Tom Conti will take over as Juror Number 8 in the West End production of Twelve Angry Men, currently running at the Garrick Theatre. He will succeed Martin Shaw, beginning performances March 31.
Conti, who won the 1979 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for reprising his West End performance in Brian Clark's Whose Life is it Anyway? on Broadway, has appeared frequently on the West End and touring stage. His films include "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence," "Shirley Valentine," "Reuben Reuben" (Oscar nomination as Best Actor), "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Streetdance 2."
He joins Robert Vaughn and Jeff Fahey who continue in their roles in the production directed by Christopher Haydon.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
