Toni Braxton Will Play Darlene Love in Upcoming OWN Biopic
04 Apr 2014
Grammy Award winner Toni Braxton, who was recently seen in Broadway's After Midnight, will star as singer Darlene Love in the upcoming OWN biopic of the Broadway star and pop vocalist, according to Variety.
"My Name is Love: The Darlene Love Story," scheduled to premiere in December, will center around Love's career in the music business. The project is shepherded by Morgan Neville.
Love has been seen on Broadway in Leader of the Pack, Carrie, Grease and Hairspray.
Braxton has also been seen on Broadway in Aida and Beauty and the Beast.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
