11 Oct 2013
Casting has been announced for the Labyrinth Theater Company's U.S. premiere of Dominique Morisseau's Sunset Baby, which will begin performances Nov. 6 Off-Broadway.
Kamilah Forbes will direct the work that will run through Dec. 6. The cast includes John Earl Jelks, Harvey Gardner Moore and Dewanda Wise.
According to the Labyrinth the production is described as such: "East New York, Brooklyn. Nina's estranged father, a former black revolutionary, reappears to obtain a piece of her deceased mother's legacy. A powerful and honest story of one woman's journey to survive the harsh realities of her world, Sunset Baby is an energetic, daring look at the point where the personal and political collide."
The creative team includes Amatus (composer and sound designer), Esosa (costume design), Jen Schriever (lighting design) and Lee Savage (scenic design).
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
