Tony Winner Alice Ripley Releases New Podcast, "This Masquerade"
30 Apr 2014
Celebrated singing actress Alice Ripley, who won her Tony Award for her performance as bipolar mom Diana in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Next to Normal, has released the latest entry in her podcast series, which is entitled Sonic Ripley.
"Sonic Ripley will be a twice weekly podcast on Soundcloud featuring new and original music and spoken word poems," actress and musician Ripley previously told Playbill.com.
About her newest podcast, Ripley said, "George Benson's 'This Masquerade' is my favorite version of Leon Russell's blue gem. The drums are there to help me learn phrasing as a singer. My neighbors don't mind...not too much."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
