Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman will receive the Golden Icon Award at the 2013 Zurich Film Festival. The ceremony will take place Sept. 28 at the Cinema Corso 1.
"Hugh Jackman is in a class by himself as a multi-talented entertainer with a global following," said festival co-directors Nadja Schildknecht and Karl Spoerri in a statement. "There is nothing he can't do and he proves this time and time again with every project he's involved in. We're honored to recognize his brilliant career at the Zurich Film Festival."
In addition to receiving the award, Jackman will present his latest film, "Prisoners" — directed by Denis Villeneuve and co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal — which has been selected to screen in the Gala Premieres section of the Festival. Tickets for the Golden Icon evening will be available Sept. 16.
Jackman, Oscar-nominated for his performance as Jean Valjean in "Les Miz," received a Special Tony Award in 2012 and took home the Tony in 2004 for his performance in The Boy From Oz. He has also been seen on Broadway in A Steady Rain and his solo show Back on Broadway.
As previously reported, the actor will also receive the Donostia Award for lifetime achievement Sept. 27 at the 61st edition of the San Sebastian Festival in Spain.
Featuring the Broadway classics “To Life (L’Chaim!),” “If I Were A Rich Man,” “Sunrise Sunset,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” and “Tradition,” Fiddler on the Roof will introduce a new generation to this uplifting celebration that raises its cup to joy! To love! To life!
