Conceived and choreographed by JoAnn M. Hunter, the piece has music by David Dabbon and book by Christine Toy Johnson.
Tony winner Michele Pawk will direct a cast led by Tony nominee Charlotte d'Amboise with Philip Michael Baskerville, Brian O’Brien, Deidre Goodwin, Miquel Jarquin-Moreland, Dharon Jones, Kristine Bendul, Colin Bradbury, Todd Burnsed, Lisa Gajda, Liz Ramos and Ryan Worsing.
The artists will be backed by Meg Zervoulis (piano) and Peter Saleh (percussion).
Secondary Impact is described as "the story of Olivia, a veteran Broadway dancer at the top of her game, who had it all until a career ending injury at 45 suddenly pushed her way past 'over the hill.' At odds with losing so much: her identity as a dancer and the emotional capacity to be the glue her family has always counted on, Olivia finds herself grappling with no longer fitting in at all the places she used to call home. Enter James, an ex-football star with Chronic Traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) sustained from repetitive brain injury, on his way back from his own brink of despair -- yet also moving towards irreparable decline. They form a deep and unlikely friendship: two survivors from different corners of the world who fall down and learn to pick each other - and themselves - up, in their own certain ways."
Dance segments, according to press notes, "are a vital and integral part of the way the story is told. They personify Olivia and James’s triumphs and losses; what they can’t remember and what they can’t forget, moving the story forward through the characters’ inner thoughts, desires and intentions."
