Outside the March's award-winning production is part of the new Off-Mirvish Season of edgier new shows in contrast to producer David Mirvish's more commercial touring presentations.
The audience, limited to 200 people a night, will be seated up onstage with the performers, "setting the production against the balconies, chandeliers and ghosts of this historic theatre," which Mirvish calls "the perfect stage for this show."
Terminus is billed as "a twisted tale chronicling one supernatural night in Dublin, [in which] a mother with a heavy conscience races to save a near-stranger from an anarchic band of lesbians. A lonely woman finds comfort, sex and love in the 'arms' of a disembodied soul. And a dangerous loner prowls Irish pubs, longing to belt Bette Midler pop songs for all to hear."
The script by Ireland's Mark O'Rowe was originally performed at Dublin's Abbey Theatre in 2007 and then toured the world. Outside the March's intimate production marked the Canadian premiere. The sold-out production received the SummerWorks Festival's 2012 Prize for Best Production.
Outside the March's artistic director is Mitchell Cushman. The entire summer creative team returns, including actors Maev Beaty, Ava Jane Markus and Adam Wilson. Cushman directs, with production design by Nick Blais and sound design by Richard Feren. Performances are Tuesday-Friday at 8 PM; Saturday at 2 & 8 PM; Sunday at 2 & 7 PM, with added show Thursday, Nov 22 at 2 PM; no show Sunday, Nov. 25 evening.
The running time is 85 minutes, no intermission. Tickets are $69, with day-of rush seats at $29.
The Royal Alexandra Theatre is at 260 King Street West, Toronto. For more information, visit mirvish.com.
As reported, the Off-Mirvish Series will also include Anthony Rapp's musical memoir Without You; the Tony Award-winning, Pulitzer Prize-honored Bruce Norris play, Clybourne Park; and Mary Walsh's new comedy Dancing With Rage.
