The 35th season features Mike Daisey's The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs, which was seen earlier this year at Off-Broadway's Public Theater, and the acrobatic theatrical event Traces, which currently plays the Union Square Theatre. Agony and Ecstasy will play May 31 and June 2-5, and Traces will play June 6-10.
Other theatre highlights include Daisey's Teching in India, held June 6; The Animals and Children Took to the Streets, which blends live action and projected animation, May 25-June 3; Noël Coward’s Hay Fever, May 24-June 10; Jack Hitt's solo show, Making Up the Truth, May 25-28; and Leo, in which Tobias Wegner defies the laws of gravity, May 24-29.
Spoleto also includes the American premieres of two operatic works: Kepler, composed by Philip Glass, May 26-June 2; and Feng Yi Ting, Guo Wenjing’s contemporary opera of love, power and political intrigue, May 27-June 7.
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (May 25-27), Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet (June 1-2), Kyle Abraham's The Radio Show (June 1-4), and Zoe Scofield and Juniper Shuey's A Crack in Everything (June 6-10) are among the dance offerings at the festival.
