Set to air Dec. 5 on NBC, the three-hour production will be based on the original 1959 Broadway musical, which starred Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel. The album, which features studio recordings of all the musical numbers performed in the live broadcast, will be released Dec. 3 from Sony Masterworks, according to Amazon.com.
Audiences familiar with the original 1959 Broadway stage production will note the inclusion of "How Can Love Survive?" and "No Way to Stop It" (for the characters of Elsa, Max and Capt. Von Trapp), which were not used for the 1965 film adaptation. The track list does show that the Maria and Capt. Von Trapp film duet "Something Good," which replaced "An Ordinary Couple" from the stage version, will be used for the upcoming broadcast. Maria's solo "I Have Confidence" is not included on the recording list.
Six-time Grammy Award winner Carrie Underwood is set to star as Maria with Stephen Moyer as World War I hero Capt. Georg Von Trapp. The cast will also boast five-time Tony winner Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess, Tony winner Laura Benanti as Elsa Schrader, Tony winner Christian Borle as Max Dettweiler and Tony nominee Christiane Noll as Sister Margaretta.
The track list follows: "Preludium"
"The Sound of Music"
