A fan-made video featuring the opening number of the Tony-winning musical The Book of Mormon animated in the style of the hit TV show "South Park" has been posted to YouTube.
Directed and animated by Simon Chong and featuring Mormon missionaries ringing the doorbells of characters in "South Park," the video includes animated versions of Elder Price, Elder Cunningham and their fellow missionaries.
"The animation I've made is in absolutely no way affiliated with either South Park or The Book of Mormon," states copy posted with the video. "It was made out of genuine love for both the TV show and stage musical."
"South Park" creators-writers Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and Academy Award and Tony-winningAvenue Q and "Frozen" songwriter Robert Lopez collaborated on the script and score to the musical, which earned Tony Awards for Best Book, Best Score and Best Musical.
Co-directed by Parker and Casey Nicholaw, The Book of Mormon opened to critical acclaim March 24, 2011, at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. Both earned Tony Awards for their work.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
