In a blog posting, Brian May, co-producer of the show and an original member of Queen, has written, "We have a new WWRY tour which will start in the UK, travel to Europe, and then head out to VERY exotic climes. That's exciting - and I hope to be able to catch up with this great new team on the way. We are also finally pressing the button on that USA WWRY tour! Amazing. It will sit down in NYC for a while too!"
In a press statement announcing the international tour, he also commented, "After our first 10 years in Rock Theatricality, this is the next giant step for We Will Rock You - and the show will feature a brand new arena-size design - a big night out for all!"
Former "Coronation Street" star Kevin Kennedy and "X Factor" finalist and West End actress Brenda Edwards will reprise the roles of Pop and Killer Queen that they both respectively played in the West End for the UK leg of the world tour to perform in Nottingham, Sheffield and Newcastle. For the remainder of the World Arena tour dates announced so far, Pop will be performed by Rob Castell and the Killer Queen by Jenna Lee James.
They will be joined by MiG Ayesa, reprising the role of Galileo after successful international and West End runs since 2005, and Lucie Jones, who shot to fame as an "X Factor" finalist in 2009 and went on to perform in Les Miserables as Meat. Lauren Samuels will return to the role of Scaramouche after her West End run in the show in 2011-12, and Khashoggi will be played by Sean Kingsley. Also in the cast are Rolan Bell as Britney and Dean Read as Rebel Leader.
Further dates in Japan, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and the USA will be announced shortly.
The tour is a Phil McIntyre Entertainments, Queen Theatrical Productions and Tribeca Theatrical Productions presentation. It is directed and written by Ben Elton.
