11 Apr 2014
The recent production of Ibsen's Ghosts, which premiered at London's Almeida Theatre last year before transferring to the Trafalgar Studios, will be screened in over 200 U.K. and Irish cinemas for one night only June 26.
Captured live in High Definition by Digital Theatre, it is to be screened as the third title in CinemaLive's West End Theatre Series, following earlier cinema screenings for Merrily We Roll Along and Private Lives.
Adapted and directed by Richard Eyre, the production stars Lesley Manville as Mrs Alving.
At the 2013 Evening Standard Theatre Awards, Eyre was named Best Director for this production, and Manville won the 2013 Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for Best Actress for her performance. The production is additionally nominated for five Olivier Awards that are being presented April 13, for Best Actress (Manville), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Jack Lowden, playing Mrs. Alving's son Oswald), Best Lighting Design, Best Director and Best Revival.
The cast also includes Adam Kotz, Brian McCardie and Charlene McKenna.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
