"We are so overjoyed to usher in 2014 with Neil Patrick Harris," Drama League executive director Gabriel Shanks said in a statement. "But to have our dear friend Whoopi Goldberg as our host and the amazing assemblage of talent on stage is a wealth of riches. This year's event is going to be legendary."
Goldberg, an Academy, Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award winner, can be seen on the ABC talk show "The View." She was nominated for a Special Theatrical Event Tony in 2005 for her one-woman show Whoopi, and has also been seen on Broadway in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and Xanadu. She won an Academy Award for her performance in "Ghost" and was nominated for " The Color Purple."
Harris will star on Broadway in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, beginning performances March 29. He has also performed on Broadway in Assassins and in the New York Philharmonic production of Company. Harris has been honored with four Emmy Awards: three for his acclaimed hosting of the Tony Awards and another for his guest-starring role on "Glee." He also served as host and producer of the 61st and 65th Primetime Emmy Awards. The black-tie gala supports The Drama League's educational initiatives for promising young artists.
