Award-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg will host the the Drama League's 30th Annual Musical Celebration of Broadway, which will honor Golden Globe nominee and Emmy Award winner Neil Patrick Harris. The event will be held at Pierre Hotel Feb. 3.
Co-directed by Tony Award winner and Drama League Alumnus Michael Mayer with Johanna McKeon, the evening will feature performances of musical selections drawn from Harris' career in theatre, film and television.
"We are so overjoyed to usher in 2014 with Neil Patrick Harris," Drama League executive director Gabriel Shanks said in a statement. "But to have our dear friend Whoopi Goldberg as our host and the amazing assemblage of talent on stage is a wealth of riches. This year's event is going to be legendary."
Harris will star on Broadway in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, beginning performances March 29. He has also performed on Broadway in Assassins and in the New York Philharmonic production of Company. Harris has been honored with four Emmy Awards: three for his acclaimed hosting of the Tony Awards and another for his guest-starring role on "Glee." He also served as host and producer of the 61st and 65th Primetime Emmy Awards.
The black-tie gala supports The Drama League's educational initiatives for promising young artists.
Deaf West’s production of SPRING AWAKENING floored the critics when it premiered in California, prompting the Los Angeles Times to write, "It's hard to enumerate all the ways in which Deaf West's SPRING AWAKENING is so very, very good." Now this unapologetically brilliant new production is coming to New York.
