Wicked Will Play Fourth Toronto Engagement This Fall
11 Feb 2014
After breaking box-office records in each of its previous three engagements, the international hit musical Wicked will return to Toronto's Ed Mirvish Theatre this fall.
The limited nine-week engagement will be presented Sept. 3-Nov. 2. Casting will be announced at a later time.
Tickets for Wicked will be available as a bonus show with a 2014-2015 Mirvish Subscription.
“Wicked is the show that our audiences ask for again and again,” said David Mirvish in a statement. “It’s a highlight of every season when Wicked is in our theatres. Not only is the material timeless, but the production is always of the highest quality. You can see the care and attention that has gone into its creation. We are especially honoured because Toronto was the beginning of the very first Wicked touring production. Having it return to the Ed Mirvish Theatre is like welcoming it home again.”
The production also features scenic design by Eugene Lee, costume design by Susan Hilferty, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, sound design by Tony Meola, projections by Elaine J. McCarthy, wig and hair design by Tom Watson, music supervision and arrangements by Stephen Oremus, orchestrations by William David Brohn and dance arrangements by James Lynn Abbott.
Wicked won Tony Awards for Costume Design, Scenic Design and Best Actress in a Musical (Idina Menzel). It was nominated as Best Musical.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
