Close, who hasn't appeared on Broadway since her Tony-winning turn in Sunset Boulevard, hinted at a New York stage return in an interview with the Washington Post earlier this year. "I'm not sure what the producer's plan is," she said, declining to name the production. "I think he might want more of a cast before [announcing the news]."
The Post reports that Scott Rudin will produce the revival that is to be directed by Simon McBurney.
An official announcement of the production has not been made.
The original Tony-nominated 1966 production starred Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn, while the 1973 film starred Katharine Hepburn, Paul Scofield and Lee Remick. A 1996 Broadway revival of A Delicate Balance, starring Rosemary Harris, Elaine Stritch and George Grizzard, was a critical and popular success, winning the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play.
