Workshop of Pump up the Volume Musical to Feature Alex Brightman, Emma Hunton, Molly Ranson, John Dossett, Liz Larsen
11 Jul 2013
Producer Sandy Stern along with Louis Hobson, Jake Groshong and Katie Tomlinson Diamond of Seattle's Balagan Theatre will present a July 12 closed workshop performance of Jeff Thomson and Jeremy Desmon's new rock musical Pump up the Volume, based on the film of the same name.
Pump up the Volume has a book by Jeremy Desmon and a score by Jeff Thomson. The creative team also includes stage managers Martha Donaldson and Lindsey Hope Pearlman and associate producer Ashley Kate Adams.
Based on the 1990 cult film by Allan Moyle that starred Christian Slater, Pump Up the Volume, according to press notes, "centers on mild-mannered teenager Mark Hunter, who secretly moonlights as shock jock 'Hard Harry' on his FM pirate radio station. When Harry exposes corruption and discrimination in his local high school, he becomes a hero to his peers, and invokes the wrath of his principal and the authorities who try to silence him."
Balagan Theatre "produces thought-provoking, well-crafted theatre to raise up the next generation of artists and audiences (while challenging the traditional theatre-goer)." Visit www.balagantheatre.org.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
