World Premiere of Drunk Shakespeare, Where Actors Drink During the Show, Will Play Quinn's Bar
20 Mar 2014
The Drunk Shakespeare Society will present the world-premiere production of Drunk Shakespeare, described as "an irreverent and outrageous new theatrical experience," directed by David Hudson, beginning March 26 at Quinn's Bar Upstairs in Manhattan.
Conceived by Scott Griffin and Three Day Hangover (David Hudson, Lori Wolter Hudson and Beth Gardiner) and produced by Griffin, the limited engagement will continue through June 8.
Here's how the show is billed: "For over four-hundred years, the Drunk Shakespeare Society has been meeting and drinking. And drinking, and doing Drunk Shakespeare. A self-proclaimed 'drinking club with a Shakespeare problem,' the membership invites audiences to join them for a meeting in their society lounge. The evening begins with one actor drinking more than a sophisticated amount of alcohol before attempting to lead the cast through a Shakespeare story in sixty minutes. The results are messy, outrageous, and the evening devolves into debauchery."
Drunk Shakespeare will be performed nightly by a rotating company of actors, which includes Lucas Calhoun, Kristin Friedlander, Phil Gillen, Kate Gunther, Josh Hyman, Whit Leyenberger, Christina Liu, Lindsey Hope Pearlman, Louis Sallan and Damiyr Shuford.
Other members of the creative team include Maddie Bucci (set design), Caitlin Cisek (costume design) and Gordon Hamilton (composer).
One "exclusive enhanced experience," priced $1,500, is available per performance and includes a regal throne and crown for the performance, up to five guests seated in the royal chambers, one bottle of Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon, two signature cocktails per guest, peeled grapes delivered to the throne, decision-making power for points of action in the play and additional surprise treats throughout the evening.
Quinn's Bar Upstairs is located at 356 West 44th Street (2nd Floor). For tickets and more information, visit DrunkShakespeare.com
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
