Linus Roache, Johanna Day and Georgia Engel are among residents in the play by the author of Thom Pain (based on nothing) (a 2004 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize) and The Flu Season, Tragedy: a tragedy and Oh, The Humanity and other exclamations. Previews began Oct. 13.

Ken Rus Schmoll directs the production, which features Roache ("Priest," "Law & Order"), Tony Award nominee Day ( Proof), Engel ( The Drowsy Chaperone, "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"), David Garrison ( A Day In Hollywood…), James McMenamin ( Our Town Off-Broadway), Cindy Cheung ("Lady in the Water"), Michael Park ("As the World Turns," The Burnt Part Boys), Heather Burns ( Lobby Hero), Ed Jewett, McKenna Kerrigan, Olivia Scott and Pete Simpson.

The Vineyard bills the play as "a deeply moving and funny new play exploring the universe of a small American town. As a friendship develops between longtime resident John Dodge (Roache) and new arrival Mary Swanson (Burns), the lives of the inhabitants of Middletown intersect in strange and poignant ways in a journey that takes them from the local library to outer space and points between."

Middletown has set and costume design by David Zinn and lighting design by Tyler Micoleau.
