Florence Stanley (Performer) Obituary
Florence Stanley, the gravel-voiced character actress who appeared on Broadway, in films and on TV shows such as "Barney Miller" and "My Two Dads," died Oct. 3, 2003, according to the Associated Press. Ms. Stanley was 79 and died of complications of a stroke, according to her husband, Martin Newman. On TV's cop comedy, "Barney Miller," she played Bernice Fish, the wife of Det. Fish (the show had a spinoff featuring the Fishes). She appeared in the 2003 film, "Down With Love," and gave voice to Wilhelmina Packard in the 2001 animated film "Atlantis: The Lost Empire."

Her Broadway credits included The Apple Doesn't Fall... (1996), What's Wrong With This Picture? (1994), Fools (1981), The Secret Affairs of Mildred Wild (1972), The Prisoner of Second Avenue (1971), The Glass Menagerie (1965) and Fiddler on the Roof (as a replacement).

Ms. Stanley was born in Chicago and studied at Northwestern University. Survivors include two children and two grandchildren.
