John Cossette Productions (Producer) Obituary

The Broadway, Chicago and West End productions of the Tony-nominated musical Million Dollar Quartet will dim their lights the evening of April 27 to honor late producer John Cossette, who died April 26 2011 at the age of 54.

Mr. Cossette was among the lead producers of Million Dollar Quartet, which premiered at Chicago's Goodman Theatre in fall 2008, and continues to play Chicago's Apollo Theatre. The Broadway production opened in April 2010, followed by the London run in February 2011.

The West End production was the first to dim its lights at 8 PM London time at the Noël Coward Theatre. Lights will be dimmed by the Broadway company at 7 PM at the Nederlander Theatre and the Chicago production at 7:30 PM at the Apollo Theatre.

Mr. Cossette's family issued the following statement: "We are deeply saddened to report that John Cossette, 54, has passed away. We ask that you please respect our privacy during this incredibly emotional time. We appreciate everyone's love and support, and further details regarding funeral arrangements will be forthcoming in the next few days."

A cause of death has not been released.

Mr. Cossette served as executive producer of the Grammy Awards telecast for 18 years, as well as the BET Awards for ten years (garnering him two NAACP Awards). He was the son of Grammy telecast founder Pierre Cossette, who died in 2009. Mr. Cossette is survived by his wife Rita and daughters, Maria and Rose.
