Former U.S. President Bill Clinton, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and their daughter, Chelsea, attended the Nov. 27 matinee of A Little Night Music, according to producer Jordan Roth’s Twitter page.
Roth also counted Clinton’s husband, Mark Mezvinsky, and Secretary Clinton’s mother, Dorothy Rodham, among the “very special guests at today’s @NightMusicBway matinee.”
The Clintons are frequent theatregoers, with the former President and the Mezvinskys most recently appearing at the Sept. 10 evening performance of Million Dollar Quartet.
A Little Night Music, currently starring Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch, is playing at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
Tony Award winners Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch recently sat down with Roma Torre of NY1’s “On Stage” to discuss their performances in the Broadway revival of A Little Night Music.
Peters (Gypsy, Annie Get Your Gun, Into the Woods, Song and Dance) and Stritch (Elaine Stritch at Liberty, Follies in Concert, Company) stepped into the production July 13, taking over from Tony winners Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury as, respectively, lovelorn actress Desiree Armfeldt and her ex-courtesan mother in the Stephen Sondheim-High Wheeler musical classic.

Tony and Oscar winner Judi Dench performed "Send in the Clowns" July 31 as part of the BBC Proms “Sondheim at 80″ concert, honoring the Little Night Music composer’s 80th birthday.
Dench played Desiree Armfeldt in the 1995 Royal National Theatre revival of the musical, and memorably performed the classic song of heartbreak at the Cameron Mackintosh tribute “Hey! Mr. Producer,” among other events.
The concert also featured performances by Bryn Terfel, Maria Friedman, Simon Russell Beale, Daniel Evans, Jenna Russell and Julien Ovendon.
An opportunity to see two-time Tony winner Bernadette Peters in A Little Night Music, meet her backstage and get a special gift from her could be yours – it’s up for auction to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and Peters’ work on behalf of homeless and shelter animals.
The gift Peters will offer is a special heart-shaped gold and diamond bracelet (valued at $1,000), which Peters created with Aki Koleina. A photo op with Peters following the performance and dinner for two before the show at Benjamin Steakhouse is all part of the benefit package.
A Little Night Music, which co-stars Elaine Stritch, is currently playing at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
We are happy to welcome guest celebrity blogger Hunter Ryan Herdlicka, who plays Henrik in the Tony-nominated revival of A Little Night Music, which will reopen after a brief hiatus July 13 with two new stars, Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch. Herdlicka, who will make his solo cabaret concert debut June 27 at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency, is blogging for Playbill.com all week; his final entry follows:
Hey everyone!
I can’t believe a week has already gone by and it’s time to end my blog on Playbill. I have gotten such amazing feedback from readers, and I thank you all for reading!
So, it’s Friday – the end of a work week for many, and the start of a busy weekend for many actors (two show days can be grueling!). It has been such a gift that Night Music has been on hiatus while I’m rehearsing for my solo concert at Feinstein’s, which is this Sunday at 8 PM! Tickets are nearly sold out, and I’m glad to hear that many of you will be there.
Today is a busy day (as usual). I’m up early so that I can get all of my errands out of the way before my entire family gets into town (my parents and grandparents). For now, I’m off to get my haircut then to Ripley Grier for a two-hour rehearsal for my concert, then off to see Promises, Promises with my family. I’ve already seen the show, but wanted to go back because I knew my family would love it and I am obsessed with Katie’s owl noises. Katie Finneran is truly incredible and completely steals the show – her performance is worth the price of admission.
Tony Award-winning leading ladies Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch, soon to step into the Broadway revival of A Little Night Music, greeted the press for a photo op and interview session June 24.
They replace Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury, who concluded their runs June 20. Peters will take on the role of the captivating actress Desirée Armfeldt, with Stritch as her worldly-wise mother Madame Armfeldt, when the show resumes performances July 13.
Here is a look at the new cast members, posing for photos at the Cafe Carlyle.

Is it weird that my first thought this morning was “Why haven’t I received my electric bill?” It’s the strangest thing; I feel like it should’ve come days ago. Oh well. There are bigger things to worry about…or are there? The last couple of months have been such a rollercoaster for me, and all of us at A Little Night Music — spending two months wondering if our show was going to close, then being told it was closing for sure, then another two weeks guessing if rumors of Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch were true, then finally hearing the good news that we were staying open! Now, we are selling tickets through January…whoever thought??
In looking back over the last couple of months, I’m just now realizing all of the wasted time I spent worrying about our show staying open. I guess what I’m getting at, is that as an actor, an artist, a person, we must realize the things that we are powerless over – the things in life that we have no control over. Procrastination, worrying, and anxiety will only hold you back from achieving your goals. I know for a fact that months of worrying about A Little Night Music did nothing to help the situation – and I never dreamt it would turn out like this (Bernadette and Elaine???!!! Amazing.). In all situations, (I remind myself of this when approaching an audition or considering a prospective job) I have to trust that I don’t know what’s best for me. Only my higher power does. As an acting teacher once said, “When you don’t get something you thought you wanted, the universe may be protecting you from something, and leading you to an ever greater destination.”
Now if only I could practice what I preach. It’s a process.

So it’s Tuesday, which always feels like the first day of the week to me, since I’m off on Mondays, but since A Little Night Music is on hiatus until July 13, it’s not a typical day for me.
I’m up early to rehearse for my Feinstein’s concert, which is in just 5 days! My director is in Chicago today, so we’re working on the show via email and phone calls. Diana Basmajian is the incredible director of my show, I Happen to Like New York. Perhaps you saw her recent Off-Broadway hit, Limonade Tous les Jours? Or if you missed it, maybe you’ve saw Kate Baldwin’s show Let’s See What Happens or Lea Salonga’s The Journey So Far? Both of those were hers. So I’m in good hands, don’t ya think? On a sidenote, did you guys know that Lea Salonga is a huge pop star in the Phillippines? I had no idea!!
Speaking of concerts, I saw Adam Pascal in concert at Feinstein’s last night, and had an awesome time. He sang a lot of original music, a new arrangement of “One Song Glory” and some Sondheim, which, of course, I loved (his arrangement of “Maria” was stunning).
After rehearsal today, I’m going to spend some time with my newly adopted dog, Quincy, a two-year-old Jack Russell terrier. I grew up around animals- I’ve had two birds, three hamsters, and five dogs – so having a dog only seems natural. I’m a huge advocate for the ASPCA – so thanks to Bernadette Peters, I am one of the hosts of Broadway Barks on July 10th, along with Jan Maxwell, Kevin Chamberlin, Judy McLane, Katie Finneran, among others. If you aren’t familiar with Broadway Barks, it’s an annual dog and cat adopt-a-thon that helps raise awareness for New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies. I hope all of you can make it out on the 10th! It’s going to be an incredible event.
After spending time with Quincy, I’m off to the gym, dinner, and then to (hopefully) Sutton Foster’s concert at the Carlyle.

Hey everyone!
So in beginning this blog, I wanted to say a big thank you for tuning in, and also to Playbill.com for letting me share a week of my life with you. And what a week it will be. This week is such a busy one for me, as I am in intense rehearsals for my solo concert, I Happen to Like New York, at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency next Sunday, June 27th, but more to come on that later!
This blog is supposed to focus on today (Monday), of course, but yesterday was such an eventful day, as you Night Music followers know, that I have to write about it. Sunday was Catherine and Angela’s last day with us in A Little Night Music. For everyone that was there, thank you for a thrilling matinee. The audience’s energy was magnetic, as it was packed with our families, producers, our director, and hundreds of the show’s most loyal fans (oh, and Glenn Close). The entrance applause for Angela was approximately a full minute, and was so overwhelming, it brought many of us to tears in the wings. The power of an audience is just incredible. I have to admit, yesterday was one of Angela’s most moving performances to date, and she would be the first to admit it. At a reception immediately following the performance, Angela told the cast that being in Night Music was one of the most special experiences of her life, and like she said, “And I’ve experienced A LOT!” CZJ followed that by bowing at Angela’s feet. Literally. She was on the ground, in a dress. A site to behold.
