Lin-Manuel Miranda Raps Thanks at In the Heights Closing (Video & Transcription)

Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda wrapped the Broadway run of In the Heights, the hip-hop and Latin-flavored musical for which he wrote music and lyrics and to which he recently returned to star in his original role of U Andnavi, with a rap of thanks at the show’s closing performance Jan. 9.

Included in Miranda’s shout-outs were everyone from the current cast and crew to the “alumni association” of departed cast members who returned for the closing (including former Vanessa Karen Olivo, whose hand he briefly clutched for support), to the show’s librettist, Quiara Alegria Hudes; director, Thomas (Tommy) Kail; producers (including Kevin McCollum, Jeffrey Seller and Jill Furman); orchestrators Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman; designers (including Anna Louizos, Paul Tazewell and Nevin Steinberg); and the crew, including stage manager Beverly Jenkins.

    In the Heights star and “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks visited “The Wendy Williams Show” Sept. 13 to chat about appearing in the Tony Award-winning musical. In this clip, she describes her reaction (or attempts to not have a reaction) to seeing her face on a billboard in Times Square.

    Sparks is making her Broadway debut in In the Heights. Her albums, “Jordin Sparks” and “Battlefield,” have featured the hit singles “No Air,” “Tattoo,” “Battlefield” and “One Step at a Time.”  Her cover of the Oscar-winning song “Beauty and the Beast,” from the film and stage musical of the same name, has just been released on iTunes. The song was recorded to mark the upcoming re-release to theatres and on DVD/Blu-ray of the classic animated film.

    Sparks is currently scheduled to stay with the show through Nov. 14. In the Heights plays at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

    Jordin Sparks Performs on "Regis and Kelly" (Video)

    On Aug. 19, the day of her Broadway debut joining the cast of In the Heights, "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks performed "Breathe" on "Live with Regis and Kelly."

    Sparks is currently scheduled to play Nina Rosario in the Tony Award-winning musical through Nov. 14. In the Heights plays at the Richard Rodgers Theater.

    Jordin Sparks to Perform from In the Heights on "Live with Regis and Kelly" Aug. 19

    "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks will perform "Breathe," from the Lin-Manuel Miranda score of the Tony Award-winning musical In the Heights, on “Live with Regis and Kelly” Aug. 19, the day she joins the show’s cast.

    Sparks will play troubled college student Nina Rosario in the musical, which looks at a community of friends in the Washington Heights district of Manhattan.

    Sparks will appear in In the Heights through Nov. 14. The show is currently playing at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

    A new commercial featuring upcoming In the Heights star and “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks has been released. Sparks is seen singing “When You’re Home” from the 2008 Tony winner for Best Musical; she will begin playing troubled golden girl Nina Rosario Aug. 19.

    Sparks will make her Broaway debut with Heights. Her albums include “Jordin Sparks” (which features the hit singles “Tattoo,” “One Step at a Time” and “No Air”) and “Battlefield.”

    Miranda and Heights Touring Cast Perform on "So You Think You Can Dance" (Video)

    Lin-Manuel Miranda and the cast of the national tour of In the Heights stopped by “So You Think You Can Dance” July 8 to perform an abridged version of “96, 000” that highlights Andy Blankenbuehler’s kinetic, Tony-winning choreography.

    Miranda, the show’s composer-lyricist, is reprising his Broadway role of Usnavi for the tour’s Los Angeles stop at the Pantages Theater, where it plays through July 25. To view the performance, click here.

    Miranda and In the Heights Touring Company to Perform on "Lopez Tonight" Tonight

    Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda and the national touring company of the Tony Award-winning musical In the Heights will perform “96,000” July 1 on “Lopez Tonight.”

    Miranda received a Tony Award for his hip hop and salsa-flavored score to the show about a group of friends living in Washington Heights in New York. He originated the role of bodega owner Usnavi in the show’s New York production, a role he reprises for the tour’s Los Angeles stop.

    The In the Heights tour plays L.A.’s Pantages Theatre through July 25. “Lopez Tonight,” hosted by comedian George Lopez, airs on TBS at 11 PM ET. Check local listings.

    Jordin Sparks Offers Houston a Taste of In the Heights

    "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks, who is set to take over the role of Nina in In the Heights on Broadway Aug. 19, offered a performance of Nina's solo "Breathe" at a June 28 concert at Houston's House of Blues.
