Watch the Radio City Christmas Spectacular Take Over Times Square for "Christmas in August" (Video)

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

Kicking off the holiday season early, Santa Claus, played by Charles Edward Hall, visited Manhattan and took over Times Square, alongside the Radio City Rockettes, for “Christmas in August” Aug. 16.

Here, Playbill Video captured all of the holiday spirit surrounding Times Square. In the “takeover,” surrounding digital outdoor boards unveiled new Christmas Spectacular imagery, and audience members were given the opportunity to participate in on-site activities highlighting the new production elements. The Radio City Rockettes also offered a glimpse into the show, performing selections from the 2011 production.

The 2011 Radio City Christmas Spectacular, running Nov. 11-Jan. 2, will feature six new scenes, new Rockette performances and costumes, and additional songs. The production will also include new state-of-the-art digital projection, coupled with the world’s largest flying indoor LED screen, to transform Radio City Music Hall. The technology is set to envelop the audience in a starry-night sky for the musical number “Living Nativity.”
