SYNOPSIS: Christopher Gore (a well-meaning English landlord in Donegal who is a widower) and his son are both in love with their housekeeper. Each of the three dreams of escaping their history, their heritage, and the manse known as The Lodge. Meanwhile, the seeming serenity of village life is threatened by Gore's visting English cousin, a doctor who intends to scientifically prove Irish inferiority.
