Ashanti’s dish pick: Spicy tuna roll
Chef/owner Mashtoshi Gugio, nicknamed Gari, says, “You come hungry. You eat. You leave happy!” Of his omakase (aka chef’s choice), he states that the dishes are slightly cooked or marinated and served with his very own sauces and delicate spices. There’s an array of traditional appetizers and Japanese entrées and Gari’s signature dish, negimaki—marinated strips of beef broiled and rolled with scallions. General Manager Baba Saburo boasts, “We have the best selection of sake (hot or cold) in town.” The beers are all Japanese.
