Celebrity Choice Review
Michael Boatman (Scott Joplin in The Tin Pan Alley Rag) chooses: Frankie & Johnnie’s Steakhouse
Michael’s dish picks: broiled salmon, creamed spinach, garlic mashed potatoes, Caesar salad, cheesecake.
Walking up stairs of aged tile and entering this cherished restaurant covered with celebrity photos, you can’t help but think, “Who among the ‘Who’s Who’ hasn’t been to Frankie & Johnnie’s?” A former speakeasy, it’s been at this location since 1977. The open kitchen’s grill is set at 800°. Chef Telmo Quinde stresses, “Steaks with bone in are the moistest.” F&J’s has every imaginable USDA prime dry-aged cut: sirloin, rib eye, filet mignon. Starters include lump crabmeat cocktail and the house salad. Entrées include lobster ravioli, shrimp scampi, lamb and pork chops, and perennial standout calf’s liver and onions. Full bar. 200 wines, 14 by the glass.
